Private Swap on Instagram

Over the next few weeks I’m going to be talking a little bit about how to find and connect with a community on Instagram. In the meantime, I’m going to share with you one of the benefits of making friends in the IG community – swaps!

Last month, one of my IG friends reached out to me about doing a private swap. Jennifer (@crimsonconfection) and I met through Saturday Night Craftalong, a weekly Instagram get together for crafters.

Jennifer asked me if I’d like to do a swap that is centered around a skein (or two) of yarn and a coordinating bag. Um.. like I even had to think about it?! Bags and yarn are probably two of my favorite things!

The yarn I ordered took a bit longer to arrive than expected, which is generally the nature of ordering Indie dyed yarns right from the dyer (SO of course the bag was put on hold to make sure that I match the colors correctly, know what I mean?!), but Jennifer sent along her package regardless and insisted that I open it. LOOK AT THAT HAUL! I was absolutely blown away. She made me a Noodlehead Maker’s Tote and jammed it full of goodies.

Hedgehog Fibres is one of my favorite yarn companies, so I was so excited to pull out some sock yarn in Typewriter (which, unbeknownst to Jennifer is my favorite neutral color way by them!). I was also thrilled to pull out a second skein by a company I haven’t heard of before!!! *Squuueeee!* this is why I love IG and IG friends so much. There is so much out there, and I love being exposed to new (to me) and exciting people, brands, etc.

Hey Holly HoHum dyes some delicious yarn, no? That magical skein up there is called Macaroon Hysteria, and the name alone gives me goosebumps. I’m so excited to plan a new project with it – as of now I’m leaning towards a shawl, because, you know, I have this thing with shawls!

Jennifer also added some amazing details to the tote, including these beaded zipper pulls.

The hand-sewn elements of this boxy tote are just about perfect, just like those points! Along with another sweet pull. I do not know much about beading, so I am going to be coveting these pouches because it is not a detail that I’m able to add to bags myself.  I really appreciate the time she put in!

Finally, this pin cushion. It is fluffy and adorable, and I love it so much. I love to have tools at my multiple work spaces (i.e. Cutting space, sewing space, ironing space) so I can just reach out and grab a tool if needed. I only had one sad little pin cushion that was moving from spot to spot, so I am excited to add this beauty into a place of prominence!

Thank you again, Jennifer, for your gift. Your time and attention to detail did not go unnoticed and is truly appreciated. You nailed my style and my love of color perfectly, and everything you sent will be used and loved (the chocolate covered cranberries are already gone and the lip gloss and lotion are both already in the rotation)!

Happy Sewing!
